What are we doing?

We will be migrating Anesthesiology computers to use Campus NetID for logins. This is part of a large-scale migration plan set by SMPH-IIT. For most users, we will be migrating to their current computer via automation tools. This process saves all local user information (files, folders, shortcuts, etc.). For users that are currently using a desktop, but are a hybrid employee, we will be issuing them a laptop for their work onsite and to take home for their work from home days.  As applicable we will be using this opportunity to update the computer setup from a desktop to a docking station with a laptop as indicated.

Who is getting migrated and when?

Our strategy is to migrate users based on their job functions and physical location. From a business continuity perspective, this allows us to have an active presence throughout the migration day. If any users experience problems, we will be nearby to help troubleshoot.  If you have an issue with the day we picked for your migration, please send an email to helpdesk@anesthesia.wisc.edu and ask us to contact you.

Are there any changes to workflow process users should be aware of?

Yes, the first and largest change will be how the user logs into computer systems. You will be using their UW-Madison NetID and password to login to all computers within the Department of Anesthesiology.

Access to the Department of Anesthesiology Intranet will still use existing Anesthesiology Department credentials for the near future.  Once your department computer is migrated to Campus NETID login you will be prompted for Anesthesiology Department credentials when trying to access the Department intranet site.

To have a common setup across SMPH roaming profiles and folder redirection will no longer be used on computers in Anesthesiology.  What this means is that files saved to your desktop and other folders like documents, downloads, and pictures will not move with you when you log into a different department computer.  You need to make it a practice to save files on network drives like J: (Home), one of the folders under G: (Department), or OneDrive. These locations are backed up and ensure secure access for users.

Next Steps

IT staff will be reaching out to you as your migration date come closer, please send an email to helpdesk@anesthesia.wisc.edu if you have any questions.
